Quick Strikes Lead to 2-0 Victory Over St. Edward’s in Final Exhibition Match

HOUSTON – After 79 minutes of scoreless soccer, Houston Baptist got on the board with two goals two minutes apart as the Huskies defeated visiting St. Edward's, 2-0, Saturday evening in the final exhibition match for the Huskies.

John McDuffee and Leonel Munoz each scored for the Huskies, while Kyle Herbison, Marcos Escobar and Mark Gendi each had one assist.

Daniel Boyer started the match and played the first half, making one save. Kevin Suarez played the second half.

Matt McLaughlin had the only shot on goal for the Hilltoppers. John Kaschak played all 90 minutes in goal, making four saves and allowing two goals.

Midway through the 79th minute, HBU got on the board, as Herbison sent in a beautiful pass to McDuffee, who shot it past the keeper.

Two minutes later, the Huskies made it 2-0 as Gendi sent a pass up the middle and the Huskies found themselves on a two-on-one. Escobar sent a cross pass to Munoz, who shot it into the net.

HBU will open the regular season hosting Air Force on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Sorrels Field. Kick off is set for 7 pm.
