HOUSTON - Houston Baptist University returns home after four games on the road to host crosstown rival Rice Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym. The game will be broadcast live on FoxSportsHouston.com, with live audio available with Matt Thomas on HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (2-4) have four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by
Joe Latas, who averages 13.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Junior guard
Marcus Davis averages 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and was named Great West Conference Player of the Week after a 20-point, 14-rebound performance at Washington Friday. Freshman guard
Tyler Russell averages 11.7 points and 4.0 rebounds, while freshman guard Ronald March averages 10.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Freshman guard
Marcel Smith has scored in double figures the last two games and averages 8.8 points and leads the team with 13 assists.
Tamir Jackson leads Rice (4-2) with 12.5 points and 3.0 assists per game, while Arsalan Kazemi averages 11.7 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Connor Frizelle averages 9.2 points per game.
Both the Huskies and the Owls have deep rotations, as HBU has 10 players averaging 10 minutes per game, while Rice has nine players averaging double-digit minutes.
Rice has won all five matchups against HBU, taking a 60-46 victory in the last meeting on Nov. 15, 2009, at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Huskies hit the road again this weekend as they take on Texas State Saturday at 4 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos, Texas.
