HOUSTON – The 2010 Atlantic Soccer Conference Rookie of the Year, Kristopher Tyrpak, scored his first goal of the season and Houston Baptist held on to a 2-1 victory on a wild Monday evening in front of a full house at Sorrels Field.

Tyrpak and John McDuffee each scored their first goals of the season and earned two points each on the night. Mark Gendi and Kyle Herbison each had an assist. Tyrpak had a match-high four shots and was tied with McDuffee for the match-high with two shots on goal.

Kevin Suarez earned his second-straight victory just hours after he was named ASC Goalkeeper of the Week. He made two saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes.

Aaron Douthit scored for the Golden Eagles, while Marco Hernandez and Aaron Birk each had an assist.

Nick Potolick took the loss, making six saves and allowing two goals in 90 minutes. There was one team save.

The two teams entered halftime deadlocked at zero. HBU outshot ORU, 5-3, with a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal, in the opening 45 minutes.

The Huskies got on the board first in the 52nd minute, as Tyrpak scored, assisted by Gendi. Gendi sent a floater up the middle of the field and Tyrpak went on a breakaway, shooting the ball past Potolick.

The Huskies scored their second goal four minutes later as Herbison sent the ball in on a corner kick and McDuffee headed the ball into the back of the net.

Four minutes after Walter Kromholz got his second yellow card of the night, resulting in a red and the Huskies playing one man short, ORU cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the 75th minute, as Douthit scored on a centering pass by Hernandez.

The Huskies played two men short for the final five minutes, as Tyrpak got an immediate red card on a sliding tackle. But the Husky defense and Suarez held strong and did not allow the equalizer.

Kromholz and Tyrpak cannot play in Friday's match against conference foe, Longwood. The Huskies and Lancers square off on Oct. 28 at 6 pm CST.
