Senior quarterback Tony Dawson led HBU to its second-ever Southland Conference victory and a win in its first-ever overtime game in a 27-24 decision over Abilene Christian. He completed 13-of-25 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown and rushed 12 times for 70 yards and a score for the Huskies. After ACU made a field goal to open overtime, Dawson threw a 25-yard strike to junior receiver Wesley Lewis on HBU’s first play in overtime to seal the win. With HBU trailing 8-7, Dawson completed a 34-yard pass to Terrance Peters, then escaped a sack and tip-toed the sideline for a 38-yard run to the ACU 4. He finished off the drive on the next play with a 4-yard run to regain the lead. Dawson hooked up with Lewis for a 69-yard completion to set up HBU’s first-quarter touchdown. His 43-yard completion to Mev Ajdin down to ACU’s 2-yard line set up the Huskies third touchdown.
