Staples won three golds and was named Great West Conference Athlete of the Year at the 2011 Great West Conference Outdoor Championships...it was his second-straight Athlete of the Year award for the senior, as he was named GWC Indoor Athlete of the Year in March...he won the high jump and long jump on Friday before completing his trifecta in the triple jump on Saturday...he cleared a lifetime best 2.00 meters/6-6.75 to take the high jump title and followed that with a dominating performance in the long jump, as three of his four legal jumps would have been good enough to win...on Saturday, Staples' leap of 14.94 meters/49-0.25 in the triple jump demolished the school record.
