Staples was named Great West Conference Athlete of the Year after finishing as the meet's top male performer with 24 points. He won a gold medal in the long jump on Sunday, a silver medal in the triple jump and a bronze medal in the high jump. He set a school record in the triple jump with a 14.12 meters/46-4 leap. He set a new lifetime best in the high jump, clearing 1.93 m/6-4.
