HOUSTON – As part of HBU Men's Basketball's 50
th Season celebration, the Huskies announced and honored their All-Decade Team for the 2000s at halftime of the Feb. 28 game against Stephen F. Austin.
The team, as chosen by a panel and online voting by fans, consists of Ricky Bennett, Charles Fordjour, Michael Holmquist, Michael LeBlanc and Rod Nealy.
Bennett was a two-year letterwinner at HBU from 2003-2005 and was inducted to the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in . He is a member of HBU's 1,000-point club with 1,223 career points, ranks seventh all-time with 349 assists and 13
th with 124 steals. Bennett's 627 points during the 2004-05 season ranks fifth all-time, while his 205 assists in 2003-2004 is tied for second and his 77 steals that year rank fourth. He earned All-America honors and was the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year both seasons as a Husky.
Fordjour was a three-year letterwinner from 1999-2002 and was inducted into the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2006. He is fifth on the Huskies' all-time scoring list with 1,511 points, second all-time with 853 rebounds and eighth with 63 blocked shots. Fordjour had 357 rebounds during the 2000-2001 campaign, which ranks third for a single-season at HBU.
Holmquist was a four-year letterwinner from 2000-2004 and was inducted to the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2011. He ranks sixth all-time with 1,494 points, third with 197 3-pointers made, sixth with 152 steals and 12
th with 281 assists. Holmquist earned All-America honors during the 2002-03 campaign and was a three-time All-Red River Athletic Conference selection.
LeBlanc was a two-year letterwinner at HBU from 2000-2002 and was inducted into the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2008. He ranks third all-time with a .595 field goal percentage and his .645 field goal percentage during the 2001-2002 campaign is the highest in HBU history. He earned All-America and Academic All-America honors and was an All-Red River Athletic Conference selection both seasons.
Nealy only played the 2002-2003 season at HBU, but what a season it was, and he was inducted to the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2007. He set the Huskies' single-season record with 984 points and led the nation with 28.9 points per game. Nealy was the National and Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Year as he led the Huskies' to their greatest season with a 31-3 record and the number one ranking by season's end. Nealy recorded the only two 50-point games in HBU history with a record 52 against Huston-Tillotson on January 16, 2003 and 50 against Mountain State on December 7, 2002.
